Who we are
Nokta Notes is made by BadgerSoft, registered in the Netherlands (KvK 86876139). We are the data controller for the limited personal data described below. You can reach us through the contact form on our Support page.
Nokta Notes is local-first by design. Your notes live on your device, and we run no servers that ever see them. This page explains the few places where data does move, and who handles it.

Nokta Notes is made by BadgerSoft, registered in the Netherlands (KvK 86876139). We are the data controller for the limited personal data described below. You can reach us through the contact form on our Support page.
Nokta Notes stores your notebook as files on your own computer. The app requires no account and has no sync service. BadgerSoft operates no server that receives your notes or any information about their contents.
Because your data lives only on your device, you are also the only one who can back it up — see the manual for recommended backup practices.
The app does not collect telemetry, analytics, or crash reports. The only network request it makes on its own is an anonymous update check: it fetches the latest release information to tell you when a new version is available.
This request contains no account details, identifiers, or information about your notes. As with any internet request, the server answering it (GitHub) can see your IP address; GitHub's privacy statement applies to that.
Secrets that the app needs — your Pro license key, GitHub tokens, and webhook secrets for publishing workflows — are stored in your operating system's keychain (Windows Credential Manager, or the Secret Service on Linux). They stay on your device and are never transmitted to BadgerSoft.
Nokta Notes includes an MCP server that runs locally on your machine. When you connect an MCP client (such as Claude), that client can read, search, and edit the notes you expose to it — that is the point of the feature, and it happens entirely under your control.
What a connected AI assistant does with the content you share is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy, not by us. Nothing passes through BadgerSoft: the connection is directly between the app on your device and the client you configured.
Publishing workflows (GitHub, webhooks) send note content to destinations you configure, only when you trigger them. The receiving service's terms apply to whatever you publish there.
Nokta Pro is sold through Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy processes your name, email address, billing details, and payment information under its own privacy policy. We never see your payment details.
From a purchase, we receive the order information needed to issue and support your license: your email address, order number, and license key. We keep this for as long as your license is active, and as required for tax and accounting law.
This website is static and sets no cookies. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track individual visitors or collect personal identifiers.
If you use the contact form on the Support page, the name, email address, and message you submit are delivered to us by our hosting provider and used only to respond to you.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since we hold very little — at most your order details and any messages you sent us — a request through the contact form is usually resolved quickly.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
If we change how the app or this website handles data, we will update this statement and the date at the top of this page.
