Privacy statement.

Nokta Notes is local-first by design. Your notes live on your device, and we run no servers that ever see them. This page explains the few places where data does move, and who handles it.

Who we are

Nokta Notes is made by BadgerSoft, a company registered in the Netherlands (KvK 86876139). We control the limited personal data described in this statement. You can reach us through the contact form on our Support page.

Data storage and collection

Nokta Notes is local-first. Your notes stay on your own device. BadgerSoft operates no servers that can access them, collects no account information, offers no cloud sync, and includes no telemetry or usage tracking.

Update checking

On Windows, the app makes no network requests of its own when it starts. Updates are delivered entirely by the Microsoft Store.

On Linux, where the app is distributed through GitHub, it makes a single request to GitHub at startup to check for a newer release. That request sends no identifiers, no account details, and no note content. Your IP address is visible to GitHub's servers; GitHub's privacy statement applies to that.

Purchases

On Windows, Nokta Notes is sold through the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft is the merchant of record. Your purchase, payment details, and any refund are handled by Microsoft under Microsoft's own privacy statement.

BadgerSoft does not receive your name, email address, or payment details. Partner Center provides only aggregated sales and usage reporting, which does not identify individual customers.

On Linux the app is free and involves no payment at all.

Credentials and secrets

GitHub tokens and webhook secrets that you enter for publish workflows are stored locally in your operating system's keychain or credential manager. They are never transmitted to BadgerSoft.

MCP server

The built-in MCP server runs locally on your machine. AI clients you connect can read and edit the notes you expose to them, and only under your control. What a connected AI assistant does with the content you share is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy, not by ours.

Setting up the MCP server writes a server entry into the configuration file of the AI client you choose, such as Claude Desktop. That file stays on your device.

Publish workflows

When you trigger a publish workflow, note content is sent only to the destination you configured, such as a GitHub repository or a webhook. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

Website analytics

The noktanotes.badgersoft.nl website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track individuals. The site sets no cookies.

If you use the contact form on the Support page, the name, email address, and message you submit are delivered to us by our hosting provider and used only to respond to you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because the app collects none, this in practice concerns only correspondence you have sent us. You can exercise these rights through the contact form on the Support page.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes

If we change how the app or this website handles data, we will update this statement and the date at the top of this page.
